Biography
Barry Smith took on the role of Chief Executive for Fortis UK in 2001, having spent his career in financial services.
Barry is Chairman of the ABI Motor Committee, a member of the ABI GIC Management Committee, Chairman of the ABI Greenaway Review in uninsured driving, and also past President of the CII in Southampton.
Demonstrating his commitment to social responsibility in the community, Barry is also actively involved with the South Coast Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's fundraising initiatives.
Barry lives in West Byfleet, is married to Gillian and has two sons.
His hobbies include following English Rugby and, for some unknown reason, Tottenham Hotspur! Hide

Biography
Bev FitzGerald founded the specialist Claims consultancy company, FitzGerald Consulting Ltd, seven years ago. Since then, the company has grown and has been involved with many of the major insurance incidents of the past few years, including – the World Trade Center; Hurricanes Ivan, Wilma, Stan & Emily; the Carlisle floods; Buncefield; the recent NE England floods and numerous individual PD/BI events throughout the world. At the same time, the company has handled a mass of auditing & review assignments both in the UK and internationally, including due diligence exercises as part of mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to founding and, as MD, leading this company, Bev worked for 25 years within the mainstream loss adjusting and claims management sector. During this time, he was employed by three of the world’s largest adjusting companies in senior roles, including Chief Executive, Chief Operating Officer & Group Marketing director.
Bev is a past-President of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters and was also Chairman of both the CII’s Society of Fellows and the Society of Claims Technicians. He is a Liveryman with the Worshipful Company of Insurers. Hide

Graeme’s career began in 1989 as a broker in general insurance. He joined BIBA in 2001 and ran the successful BIBA schemes and facilities portfolio. He now runs the BIBA Motor Panel and Professional Indemnity Initiative and plays a key role in BIBA’s public affairs and public relations. He is a source of expertise for the press, works closely with industry members and Government to raise major issues and sits on the Department for Transport Motor Insurance Compliance Action Board and the Motor Insurer’s Bureaus continuous insurance enforcement Programme Board.

Previously at Guardian Royal Exchange in a senior claims capacity, Jamie joined Lombard Continental in 1987. He was appointed Marketing Development Manager in 1989. Jamie joined the Company's General Management team as Marketing Manager, prior to the Company's successful flotation on the London Stock Exchange. In 1999 and as part of the formation of Groupama Insurances, Jamie was appointed Group Marketing Manager to support the launch of the Groupama brand in the UK. Olly founded IMAS in 1992 which in 2007 advised on more sale mandates of privately held financial services business than any other UK adviser. He is responsible for the development of IMAS’s central knowledgebase system (Maximas) which is a unique source of data on the UK financial services sector. Prior to setting up IMAS he worked for Cazenove, where he worked on rights issues and public company takeovers and at Kleinwort Benson where he was involved in a number of financial services transactions. Stephen entered the insurance industry at the age of 17, working initially for Sun Alliance, before moving on to Berry Birch and Noble Plc at the age of 23. Stephen was appointed director at the age of 25. In December 1988, Stephen formed Burrows, Keith & Associates Limited, with certain of his colleagues. Burrows, Keith & Associates Limited then became the BKG group of companies and ultimately part of the Group in 2006.
Stephen has focused over his insurance career on marketing and new business within the general commercial insurance industry. For the past 10 years Stephen has carried out the role of chief executive officer and until recently was the chairman of the Company. Theo Duchen is co-CEO and founder of Acturis, a leading Insurance Distribution Software Platform which was founded in 2001. He was previously a partner at McKinsey & Company, having joined McKinsey in 1991 and becoming a partner in 1997. He led McKinsey's general insurance practice in the UK, was a member of McKinsey's European insurance leadership group, and has worked extensively with both insurers and major international brokers over a period of several years. Adrian joined Heath Lambert by acquisition when his specialist Lloyd’s broker, Crowley Colosso, was bought in 1992.
His background was in specialty areas, such as fine art, specie, jewellers block and entertainment, as well as international property/casualty. He spent a number of years in New York handling specialty business for Republic Hogg Robinson, before returning to the UK and forming Crowley Colosso.
On joining the Group, Adrian had responsibility for the creation of the Art, Jewellery and Private Client Division before going on to head up the International Division. He was then appointed Head of Global Broking before becoming Managing Director UK in 2003.

Paul is a partner within the PricewaterhouseCoopers Insurance Industry Group, and has spent the last 21 years in the non-life insurance industry advising a broad range of insurers and reinsurers within the UK, Continental Europe, the US, Bermuda, Japan and Australia. Paul specialises in the operational effectiveness of insurance companies, covering areas such enterprise risk and capital management, Solvency II and ICAS, underwriting function effectiveness, catastrophe modelling and aggregation management, reinsurance strategy and purchasing, distribution channel management and claims target operating models. Paul also has extensive experience of financial, commercial and operational due diligence projects, in both the insurance/reinsurance and broking sectors. Paul joined the Group in September 1976 as a Senior Underwriting Clerk in the Fire Section, based in Belfast. In December 1997 he transferred to Dublin and became CEO for Republic of Ireland in June 1998. During his time in the Irish Insurance Market, Paul was President of the Irish Insurance Federation and separately President of the Insurance Institute of Ireland. He commenced his current role in July 2007 and is based in the Leadenhall Court office.

He joined BIBA in 1996 to establish, what is now a highly successful technical services department. He was responsible for raising key technical issues with the media – gaining significant broadcast and print coverage for leading insurance issues. Peter has played a significant role in some of the major issues of the day including Employers Liability and Terms of Business Agreements and he has developed ongoing relationships with various government departments.

Philip is Head of Indemnity and Corporate Risk at Hugh James. He has represented insurers and corporate clients for over 16 years and has considerable experience of handling a wide range of liability and disease claims.
He has dealt with Health and Safety prosecutions, road traffic prosecutions and inquests and is an experienced advocate in Magistrates' and Coroner's Courts.
Philip has experience of handling high value and catastrophic spinal and brain injury claims.
Philip has a specialist interest in claims handling processes, innovation and technology and was integral to the development of our volume claims solution, Streamline. He has co-ordinated our response to tackling insurance fraud and was responsible for building our substantial pre-litigation claims handling capability.

Paul Meehan has 35 years experience in the insurance industry. In 1987 he joined the small insurance brokerage Smart & Cook and helped to turn it into a multi-million pound company. Appointed Group Chief Executive in 2004, he oversaw the transformation of the company into a multi-site business (26 offices, 685 staff) and increased brokerage to over £40m through acquisition and team creation. In April 2007, he sold the company to AXA UK plc.
In September 2008, Paul became Customer Experience Director of AXA Insurance, where he is bringing his wealth of experience to enhance customer service. He is responsible for overseeing the entire customer journey and helping AXA Insurance to evolve into a customer-centric organisation.
Between his time at Smart & Cook and AXA Insurance, Paul set up his own consultancy, Meehan Corporate Consulting Ltd.
Paul has served on the boards of a number of broker associations, including the North Eastern region of the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA), the Insurance Brokers Registration Council (IRBC, and The Broker Alliance Ltd where he was a founding member and chairman.
Paul personally supports a number of children’s charities, particularly Children in Need for which he has raised more than £100,000.

Stephen joined Lark Insurance Broking Group in 1988, and gained experience in many different business areas before becoming a Director in 1993. Management roles in the Private Client and Commercial sectors followed, before Stephen was made Group Managing Director in 1999.
A number of acquisitions were made and integrated between 2001 and 2008, and enabled Lark to create a branch structure in London and the South-East of England. In 2007 Groupama took a majority stake in Lark Group. Lark Group celebrated 60 years in business in 2008.
Stephen is a Chartered Insurance Broker, and sits on the CII Insurance Broking Faculty Advisory Board.

Amanda was appointed as Chief Executive Officer UK Broking in 2006. She was formerly Distribution and Customer Services Director of Groupama Insurances. Before joining Groupama, Amanda held senior sales and distribution positions at AXA Insurance and Commercial Union. In 2008 Amanda was voted the overall winner of Women in the City award and is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute Broking Faculty.

Chris became Managing Director of Open International in March 2008 and is responsible for driving all group businesses forward and shaping their future strategy. He has held a number of senior roles during his ten year career within the business. Originally joining from Gus plc in 1999, Chris moved on to the Board as Operations Director in 2002 and in May 2005 transitioned to Research & Development Director. Chris was part of the management buy-out team in 2006 and again in 2007.
