Industrial insurer HDI-Gerling has hired former RSA executive David Corrigan as UK and Ireland property underwriting director.

Corrigan was previously underwriting director of UK risk-managed property business at RSA.

His appointment follows the creation of a new engineering, construction and energy division at HDI Gerling headed by David Ball, previously major and global risks director and property underwriting director.

While Corrigan will fill Ball’s property underwriting director role, Ball’s major and global risks director role will be assumed by HDI-Gerling’s UK and Ireland liability underwriting director Mark Appleton.

Appleton will retain his existing responsibilities as UK and Ireland liability underwriting director.

HDI Gerling’s new division, where Ball will be underwriting director, combines the company’s engineering and construction portfolio with its energy business. It will also be responsible for the property, construction/erection all risks and liability classes of insurance.

Commenting on Corrigan’s appointment, HDI Gerling UK and Ireland managing director Richard Taylor said: “David brings a wealth of underwriting experience and strong client and broker relationships. I am delighted that we have been able to attract such a highly respected underwriting director to the company.”

Commenting on the new division, Taylor said: “David is experienced in delivering a strong client proposition and this new structure will enable us to provide the best possible insurance solutions for our brokers and clients.”

Ball added: “The business synergies within the three business units in the new division will enable us to offer our energy clients a range of products and services, from greenfield sites to operational, for both property and liability classes.”
