Video evidence showed claimant had exaggerated injuries

QBE

QBE Insurance has won a contempt of court action worth £500,000 against a fraudster, after surveillance footage proved the alleged victim had grossly exaggerated his claim.

The fraudster, a Mr Heffer, had claimed against a QBE client after he sustained leg and back injuries falling from a vehicle.

Mr Heffer had alleged significant incapacity in his £500,000 claim, but video footage provided by the client, a metal stockholder, revealed that he had exaggerated.

Mr Heffer withdrew his claim, but QBE decided to proceed with contempt of court action against him.

QBE director of casualty Matt Lacy said: “This contempt of court case is yet another example of our success in bringing perpetrators of insurance fraud to justice.

“This latest case comes on the back of other well-publicised attempts to defraud our clients and QBE of substantial amounts of money, and demonstrates how we will resolutely defend our interests and those of our clients.”
