What key achievement did your entry highlight?

As a new specialist schemes broker to the not-for-profit sector (charities, voluntary organisations and Local Councils) – we have had several key achievements. Developing a strong partnership with NALC (The National Association of Local Councils – 10,000 councils membership). Developing our specialist brand, BHIB Councils Insurance. Improving the customer journey, digitising customer data and implementing a self-service online model for clients whilst maintaining a specialist telephone-based team to keep the personal service for our thousands of not-for-profit clients. Working with clients to expand our offering (new services, such as support to become cyber-certified or support with digitally recording their assets).

Can you share data or testimonials to back up your bid to win?

"It is more important than ever to have insurance experts who know our sector and upon whom we can rely on when arranging the right protection for local councils delivering services and representing communities. Without doubt, BHIB has shown a very strong commitment to the sector." Sue Baxter, chairman of NALC.

"We have identified BHIB as an expert brokers in the schemes field to develop mutual solutions and propositions for clients. Working in partnership means that we are able to provide great customer service." Joe Conway, strategic distribution manager, Aviva.

What sets your firm apart from the other shortlisted contenders?

Our strong partnership with NALC to truly drive change in the local council sector – we are helping councils become cyber-certified and becoming more digitally-savvy. Supporting the sector with funding opportunities. We have gone from a standing start in 2017 with our Councils insurance brand to now being one of the top three specialists in the country. Following investment into our own technology firm and via innovative efficiencies, we manage insurance for thousands of councils with a team of six people. Consistently high client retention rates and strong new business growth.

How will you celebrate if you are the victor?

This win would be more than just a trophy for us. This would boost morale to the team who work tirelessly serving our scheme clients. As a renowned award, this will prove to our customers that they have made the right insurance decision. NALC and our not-for-profit partners will use this to spotlight the insurance sector as a whole to their members. As this year celebrates 10 years since our MBO, the business is rewarding staff with free extra holidays and financial incentives, this would be an excellent icing on the cake to a phenomenal year!
