Motorcycle specialist Bennetts kicked off 2004 by bucking a trend towards higher premiums.

It said its 11% drop countered criticism by The Motorcycle Action Group that insurers were hiking the cost of third party cover to generate bigger profits.

Bennetts director Matthew Gledhill said: "The figures from Bennetts prove that not all motorcycle insurance companies are putting up premiums year on year, simply to increase profits.
"Between January 2002 and December 2003 the average premium paid by a Bennetts customer for a new policy or a renewal has reduced by 11%."

Bennetts also offers advice to help motorcyclists, such as tips to prevent theft and advanced riding courses, both of which can cut premiums by up to 10%.
