I read with interest the letter you published entitled "Unfair motor insurance advantage" (Letters, 23 February).

Your correspondent questioned whether there was a conspiracy afoot by insurers to take brokers and intermediaries out of the equation altogether, with particular reference to the Post Office offering motor insurance using its enormous distribution network.

Everyone likes a good conspiracy theory, however there is one fundamental flaw to this one - the Post Office motor scheme is supplied through an intermediary, not the single insurer scheme he presupposes.

Intermediaries such as ourselves and others servicing the corporate relationship sector have consistently won contracts to service business due to the value we add in consumer pricing, breadth of underwriting, marketing expertise and brand protection.
