The removal industry in the UK is in turmoil over the introduction of FSA regulation, said the British Association of Removers (BAR).
BAR general secretary Robert Syers, said the trade association had two concerns over regulation. He said it could lead to many firms deciding not to offer insurance anymore.
“First, how it will affect our member firms and second the impact on the consumer if many firms opt out altogether.
“The latter is something we do not want to see happening.
“Because of this, BAR is actively exploring alternative options for those companies that do not become authorised, so that the public can continue to be protected during the moving process – a process fraught with potential risks.”
BAR will campaign to gain a similar exemption to that of the travel industry, despite that fact that the 13 July deadline to be sure of authorisation by 14 January 2004 has now passed.
