Prime Minister David Cameron is “starting to understand the importance” of the insurance industry more than ever, according to UK Conservative MP Jonathan Evans.

Speaking at the Solvency II Solutions conference of the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation last week Evans stated that there are “some gleams of light that attitudes to insurers are changing.”

“The PM is warming to the insurance industry,” said Evans. “He held an insurance summit in February and got an interesting bunch of people to attend-it wasn’t just a media opportunity. And now there will now be a third one in September. The PM is starting to understand the importance of the industry-I’ve not thought that in the last two years.”

Evans also praised Cameron’s endorsement of Lloyd’s 2025 strategy as a “huge move by government.”

“This was beyond what I thought Lloyd’s could do,” said Evans. “It’s a further significant step to recognising the importance of the insurance sector.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
