This award recognises an outstanding claims team that has worked together to achieve positive outcomes for their organisation and/or customers and can demonstrate real impact.

Entrants must be able to evidence success over the last 12 months [since January 2019].

What key achievement did your entry highlight?

That a well motivated team, led by peers and given the remit for change can achieve great things. This was a team effort and everyone pulled together. It's about having confidence in yourself and the team and having the authority to make changes. Confidence stems from this. Confidence, confidence, confidence.

Can you share data or testimonials to back up your bid to win?

Our claims leakage went from over 10% at its worst to now 2%. External audit report (December 2019 from SX3).

What sets your firm apart from the other shortlisted contenders?

We are a family company and had a traditional mindset; thorough but slipping behind industry developments. Probably unlike the others - we did not start from a good place - we inherited a backlog position and had to work twice as hard to get to BAU and then onwards to what good looks like; so its been twice the challenge.

How will you celebrate if you are the victor?

It's our Claims Managers birthday on the night of the awards so drinks would definitely be on him! The team would be euphoric and I have a feeling the champers might flow that evening - hopefully doesn't count as claims leakage!!!

What key achievement did your entry highlight?

We harness the power of Gallagher and 30 years of intelligence and insight to make informed investments in recruitment, training, development, product innovation and infrastructure; all of this to get the best outcomes for our customers.

The experience and knowledge of our colleagues to always achieve the best outcome for every customer is demonstrated in high retention rates: 9 out of 10 customers renew with Deacon every year.

Our commitment to our colleagues, providing them with unrivalled opportunities for training and development, is witnessed in our employee retention rate: 90%.

Can you share data or testimonials to back up your bid to win?

It has to be our people; more specifically, their personal commitment and values.

Every client is cared for as a person who needs help.....not merely a claim to be processed.

It is this that creates a great customer experience and the loyalty that has helped make Deacon the success we enjoy today. They are values that cannot be taught and extend far beyond the work environment.

We match every employee’s fund raising efforts up to £700 per year. Over the past three years, colleagues have raised more than £45,000 for local charities and, despite the Coronavirus, we remain optimistic of achieving our target to raise a further £10k this year.
