I refer to your article on loss adjusting (9 May, Insurance Times) which focused on the migration of chartered loss adjusters to accountancy firms. I would like to point out that Aon has pursued a policy of employing chartered adjusters within its claims operation for a number of years. We began by providing technical consultancies through our consulting and audit unit and recently have been recruiting adjusters to manage our claims operation.

It is becoming clear that in the changing insurance market, chartered loss adjusters need to be more flexible in their approach and may well have to reposition themselves. The role of the loss adjuster has changed and will continue to evolve. This is further endorsed by the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters' (Cila) decision, which confirms that loss assessors who abide by the terms of the charter can be admitted as members of Cila.
