London-listed insurer Lancashire has named Louise Wells as its new chief risk officer.

Wells is currently the insurer’s head of internal audit, a role she took in 2011.

She will take over from current chief risk officer Charles Mathias on 28 July. Mathias is leaving Lancashire in November.

Lancashire group chief executive Alex Maloney said: “Louise has proved herself to be meticulous, diligent and independent in her role as group head of internal audit and the management team and board consider that these qualities suit her well for her new role.

“Louise has been closely engaged with Lancashire’s preparations for the implementation of the UK Solvency II regime and is well equipped to lead this important work stream.

“Her appointment demonstrates the importance which Lancashire attaches to developing the skills of our staff and maintaining a strong bench of talented employees capable of serving the needs of our business.”

He added: “I would also like to thank Charles for his contribution to Lancashire over many years.”
