Former AXA Art Insurance chief to join broker next week

Ian Barclay has stepped down as chief executive of AXA Art Insurance and will join broking firm Aon next week as managing director of personal lines in the UK, Insurance Times has learnt.

Barclay was appointed chief executive of AXA Art Insurance on an interim basis in January last year to cover for permanent chief executive Annabel Fell-Clark while she was on maternity leave. Fell-Clark has now returned to her post.

Barclay was previously distribution director at AXA Insurance.

The personal lines role at Aon is a newly-created position.

Aon appears to be showing growing interest in personal lines business.

It acquired Irish personal lines online broker insure.ie in December last year in a deal thought to be worth tens of millions of euros.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
