Company history:

St Andrew's Group was established in 1995 and has grown rapidly by servicing a number of insurance markets. Its main focus is on creditor insurance, a product designed to help borrowers meet repayments in a range of eventualities including accident, sickness and unemployment. Previously a Bank of Scotland subsidiary, St Andrew's Group is now a member company of HBOS. St Andrew's Group comprises companies, providing different services to meet the needs of the insurance market.

St Andrew's Insurance drives the development of the group's core creditor products, which are sold through a range of third-party clients, including many household names within the mortgage, credit card, personal loan, motor and retail industries. It also underwrites the policies and provides a customer-focused approach to claims handling for its clients.

St Andrew's Life underwrites the life element of the group's products.

St Andrew's Membership Services offers a card protection product called Card Care. Card Care provides assistance to individuals in a range of emergencies at home or abroad after the loss or theft of debit, credit, store or charge cards and other essential documentation.

Mentor is a specialist company providing medical and back to work assistance for both St Andrew's policyholders and a range of third-party clients.

This area provides an added value service by offering assistance at a critical time to help tailor the claims process to meet customer needs.

Company history:

Esure was founded in 2000 and launched in 2001 by chairman and founder Peter Wood, with backing from HBOS. The company became the UK's fastest growing car insurer ever in 2003. Esure offers insurance direct to customers through the internet and telephone.

Biography: Peter Wood is widely recognised as the man who launched direct insurance in the UK when he founded Direct Line in 1985. He moved on to set up six further insurers in the UK, US and Spain, including Privilege Insurance and most recently First Alternative in the UK.
