History: Launched in January of 1998 as Axa Provincial Insurance following the global merger of the UAP and Axa Groups in 1997, the company changed it name to Axa Insurance in October 1998.

The acquisition of the Guardian Royal Exchange Group by Sun Life Provincial Holdings in May 1999 saw the integration of the Guardian Insurance and Guardian Direct portfolios under the new Axa Insurance brand.

Biography: Homer was born in Worcestershire and educated at St Chad's Grammar School, Wolverhampton and Becket Grammar School, Nottingham. He is a charted insurer and an alumnus of the University of Philadelphia, Wharton School and Templeton College, Oxford. He supports West Bromwich Albion FC and Worcestershire Cricket Club. He was appointed chief executive of Axa Insurance in August 1998.
