History: Oval was established at the end of 2003 with the aim of creating one of the UK's foremost national broking groups.
The Oval concept was to bring together a growing number of the UK's best regional commercial insurance broking businesses under the Oval Group.
Oval's first acquisition was RP Hodson, the Yorkshire-based insurance broking and financial services group, which was followed by the acquisition of Bland Bankart in April of this year.

Main lines of business: Oval specialises in corporate general insurance and integrated risk management advice for plcs, large corporate organisations, owner managed companies, SMEs and private individuals. Additionally, it has specialist expertise in oil and gas, aviation, latent defect cover for commercial property, environmental impairment solutions, financial risks (professional indemnity, directors' and officers', pensions trustee etc), construction, food and drink.

Biography: Phillip Hodson is also chairman of RP Hodson Holdings. He joined the group in 1977, having formerly worked for Anglo America in South Africa.
He has guided the group to its current level by overviewing a strategic acquisition policy. Hodson played cricket for Yorkshire CC and rugby for Western Transvaal and is a member of the MCC main committee.
