Company history: When Avon Insurance began life, its principal aim was to provide an additional dimension to the NFU Mutual Home Insurance Society.
It moved to its own purpose-built head office in 1991 and opened its Liverpool regional office in 1992.
Today, service for its customers is provided through a strategically located network of offices around the UK, backed by two regional offices.
Avon is part of the NFU Mutual Group and therefore, there are no shareholders and retained profits are the foundation of the group's tremendous financial strength.

Biography: Alan Harris is a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute as well as a chartered insurer and, in addition, holds a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) from City University Business School.
He was appointed general manger of Avon in June 1996 and has worked for the group for 25 years. He is also a non-executive of the Belgian reinsurance company SECURA. He began his career with the group in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and has worked in a number of roles including inspector, regional manager, life sales manager and agency manager.
