AA Insurance Services has announced it will axe more than 100 management and administrative call centre jobs from November.

Staff were told of the plans yesterday and full consultation has begun with the AA's recognised trade union, the AA Democratic Union.

Kevin Sinclair, managing director of AA Insurance, said: "The insurance market has become very competitive. So it's vital we reduce costs and improve efficiency.

"At this stage we can't be certain of numbers – this will become clearer as restructuring takes place and our discussions with the union and staff continue.”

However, the AA has emphasised that it is keeping well over 1,000 jobs at its Newcastle and Cardiff UK call centres.
