AA Insurance Services has reported its best-ever year of portfolio growth during 2001 and now expects to recruit over 100 new sales staff to support business in 2002.

Independent insurance intermediary AA Insurance Services has reported its best-ever year of portfolio growth during 2001 and now expects to recruit over 100 new sales staff to support business in 2002.

The company said that during 2001, its motor portfolio grew by over 40,000, while its home portfolio grew by over 20,000.

It attributed the growth to increased price-competitiveness as Lloyds TSB, Hastings and NIG joined the AA's panel.

A new TV advertising campaign, increased online sales through www.theAA.com and a highly focused workforce also contributed, it said.

It added that over 100,000 car insurance policies had now been sold through the website and that it now generated 45% of all motor insurance quotes.

Combined customer growth for 2002 is expected to be over 75,000. It said to handle the increased customer demand, it expected to recruit nearly 100 new sales staff into its Cardiff and Newcastle contact centres in January.

The company will also be under a new managing director during 2002. Andrew Briscoe, currently sales director for British Gas, moves within the Centrica group to AA Insurance Services. Previously he was managing director of the Goldfish credit card.

Kerry Richardson, the current managing director, moves within the AA to head up AA Road Services.
