The growing popularity of BBC1's gardening programme Ground Force, which features Charlie Dimmock, Alan Titchmarsh and Tommy Walsh is reaping rewards for white van insurers.

The UK's largest motor intermediary, the AA, says the gardening boom is making business bloom in its commercial vehicle insurance portfolio.

It now has more than 30,000 commercial vehicle clients - a rise of 12% in a year - helped by the number of landscape gardeners setting up to meet public demand.

But the rise in demand for light commercial vehicles (LCV) seems also to have fuelled a rise in theft.

The ABI this week launches a new group rating system in a bid to combat this trend.

It consists of 20 insurance groups assessing the vehicle's retail value, gross vehicle weight, damage and reparability, and security.
