ABI urges consumers to avoid sites offering no claims bonuses

The Association of British Insurers and Insurance Fraud Bureau have slammed fraudulent websites claiming to sell no claims bonus certificates.

One website claimed to offer a certificate valid with hundreds of insurers for 18 years.

An ABI spokesman said: “We would urge consumers to avoid sites like this. Evidence of no claims bonuses should come from an insurer, not from a website like this.”

The spokesman added that drivers using the fake certificates could jeopardise their future motor insurance by supplying false information.

IFB director Glen Marr said: “The existence of websites offering to allegedly produce no claims bonus entitlement documents for a fee are known to the IFB.

“We have been alerted to the existence of such both from within and outside the insurance industry.”
