Big rises in water bills means that the risk of sewer flooding should be reduced “significantly”, the ABI said today.
Water regulator Ofwat has approved plans by water companies to spend £1bn on sewer improvements. It said the big spend would resolve the problem of sewer flooding for more than 9000 high-risk homes.
The regulator has also made allowances for mitigation measures for a further 5000 properties to reduce the impact of the sewer flooding risk.
The ABI said the insurance industry was in favour of the investment. It said it was a much-needed boost to ensure that our sewers are able to cope with the heavier rainfall that climate change will bring.”
