AIG has announced that it is donating $1m to support relief efforts in the areas affected by the earthquake in South Asia on 8 October.
In addition, AIG said it is encouraging its employees to help the earthquake victims by donating to the AIG Disaster Relief Fund and that employee donations will be matched 100% by AIG.
Martin J Sullivan, AIG president and chief executive, said: "The funds donated will be given to organisations throughout India and Pakistan that will be able to most efficiently and effectively provide much needed relief."
AIG has a long-standing presence in the region. Through a joint venture in India, Tata AIG has offices throughout the country that provide general and life insurance. In Pakistan AIG Companies, headquartered in Karachi, also provides general and life insurance.
