AIG has won a preliminary injunction that bars the brokerage agency Starr Technical Risks, run by former Chairman Maurice R. Greenberg, from writing insurance policies for AIG customers on behalf of anyone other than the insurer.
New York State Supreme Court Justice Herman Cahn said in his ruling that failure to grant AIG relief would cause the company "immediate serious harm."
The ruling by , also barred Starr from entering into reinsurance contacts with National Indemnity, an affiliate of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway.
AIG had accused Starr of trying to siphon business and steer it to competitors.
