Sainsbury's Bank has launched a travel product tailored for the ski season.

A single trip policy for one person travelling in Europe costs around £15 a year and family cover costs around £75.

Gail Quinn of Sainsbury's Bank said: “Every year, more than one million people who travel abroad do not take out insurance. Indeed, of the half a million people who go skiing every year one in 20 will not be covered, but 15,000 of them can expect to suffer an injury.

“Given that the cost of medical care in most ski resorts in both Europe and the US has risen by an average of almost 50% in the past three years, any medical treatment they receive can run into thousands of pounds. For example, the cost of treating a broken leg in Switzerland can cost up to £25,000.”
