Claims handlers for Allianz Cornhill are to use ultra violet (UV) lights in a move to combat fraud.
The insurer said its claims handlers would use UV light to examine documentation for watermarking and UV features, which are not present in counterfeit documentation.
Vehicle registration documents and MOT certificates were examined under the UV light, said the company.
Allianz Cornhill claims fraud manager Mihir Pandya said: “This incredibly simple method of detecting fraudulent documents is very effective and will help us in our ongoing fight against fraud.
“All of our claims handlers and motor engineers are receiving training on the signs of forgery within vehicle documentation and we believe that, coupled with wider use of UV lights, this will give them the expertise and the confidence to spot fraudulent documents.”
