Lloyd's managing agency Ascot Underwriting, has become the only Lloyd's syndicate with an A plus rating, after AM Best assigned its Superior rating on Syndicate 1414.
The syndicate, which is backed by AIG, is expected to achieve "superior levels of profitability in the period 2001 to 2003."
AM Best also identified Ascot's underwriters as leaders in their specialist areas and said the syndicate has built up a well-diversified team.
Ascot chief executive Martin Reith said: "An insurance policy is only as good as the security behind it.
"This rating reflects the steps Ascot has taken to ensure we can back our underwriting with the strongest security to be offered by any Lloyd's syndicate."
