Amlin has reported profits of £55.4m for the year ended
against a loss of £81.5m in 2001.
Gross written premium was up 22% to £717.1m.
Earnings per share was 14.1p, against a loss of 33.3p in 2001.
Amlin chief executive Charles Philipps said: "Underwriting conditions remain strong, even though those classes which experienced significant increases after 11 September 2001 are showing signs of having peaked.
"Amlin's growth into the hard market and financial leverage, together with the manner in which we earn profitable premium, should provide strong earnings momentum over the next several years."
