Rainbow International has introduced a new product which it says will help insurers to defend claims arising from poor cleanliness.
The disaster restoration specialist has been conducting research into how insurers can establish total cleanliness in buildings affected by fire and floods.
Rainbow said insurers were at risk from litigation following alleged infections, allergic reactions and poisoning by microbial toxins caused by the growth of bacteria and moulds in damaged buildings.
The technology can calculate exact bacterial and fungal quantities present at any time during the cleaning and restoration process, by analysing surface and air samples, and providing scientific evidence of cleanliness. As a result insurers can take steps to reduce health hazards.
