Aon will sell its subsidiary Sheffield Insurance to Axis Specialty.

The deal is awaiting regulatory approval.

Current combined specialty chairman and chief executive Dennis Reding will leave to run the Sheffield business.

David Cole will take his post.

Aon chairman Patrick Ryan said Aon was pleased that Axis had bought Sheffield Insurance.

"We wish Dennis Reding and his team great success in the future," he said.
