Aon's Newcastle office has been hit with further resignations after Alexander Forbes International Risk Services (AFIRS) poached two senior staff from the broker.

AFIRS has appointed Michael Farrell as development director while Anthony Place has been appointed as regional broking director for the northern region.

Roger Brown, AFIRS chief executive, said: "These are two major appointments in our plans to grow our corporate business in the North."

The blow comes three months after Heath Lambert poached a number of senior staff from Aon in the region.

Aon's Newcastle office is understood to handle several of Aon's major UK clients, including manufacturing and distribution giant Saint-Gobain, with a brokerage thought to be in excess of £1m.

Market sources have also predicted that more resignations will follow.

One source said: "A further 13 or 14 are planning to leave very soon."

An Aon spokesman confirmed it had received "a number of resignations", but refused to comment on personnel matters.
