Argent Insurance Group, part of Cox Insurance Retail Division, has boosted its network of retail branches to 18 after acquiring Doncaster-based business Bourne Swann for an undislosed sum.

Bourne Swann, established in 1966, enjoys a strong presence in the South Yorkshire area with two offices specialising in motor, home, travel and motorbike insurance.

The founder of the business, Marshall Swann, is retiring from insurance to pursue other business interests, but all other staff will be retained by Argent.

Paul Dodds, managing director of Argent Insurance Group, said: “During 2001, we will focus on integrating these businesses to ensure that we have a consistent marketing and sales strategy, together with a common systems platform.”

He added that the group is interested in buying both books of businesses and brokerages who are looking to sell in their entirety, with owners who wish to either continue working or leave the the business.
