Leading Sussex broker Argyll Insurance has acquired Brighton-based insurance consultants Sharpe and Partners.

Argyll chairman Kevin Young said the merger will enable Argyll to compete with national players in the insurance market.

His firm has boosted its staff to 35 since moving to Sussex from London four years ago, acquiring Bainton Smith financial services in the process. Argyll is a specialist in commercial and public sector broking and risk management and provides a comprehensive personal lines portfolio. Stephen Sharpe, founding partner of Sharpe and Partners, will remain with the new business. He said his clients will benefit from Argyll's additional support while retaining his firm's personal touch.

- Broker Layton Blackham has acquired the Chelmsford broker Ford Loft Group for an undisclosed sum.
