Lloyd's insurer Atrium Underwriting plc has reported an increased pretax loss for the 2001 year of account of £15.2m, compared to a loss of £2.7m the year before.

The operating loss was £6.6m, compared with a previous £2m loss.

The group said it had been hit by investment losses and provisions put in place after the World Trade Centre (WTC) attacks. It will not be paying a dividend for 2001.

Atrium did say, however, that it is now experiencing significantly improved trading conditions.

The estimated pre-tax net loss to Atrium for WTC is currently estimated at £9.1m.
