Atrium Underwriting said its prospects for 2004 remain attractive while 2003 is expected to generate "excellent" underwriting profits.

Its syndicates 570 and 609 which are managed by the Atrium Underwriters subsidiary, are expected to continue trading strongly with Syndicate 609 increasing capacity 12.5% to £180m for 2004.

An Atrium spokesperson said: "While both managed syndicates have business that is still on risk for the 2002 year of account the improving mid-point forecasts confirm our expectations of a return to double digit underwriting profits."

Insurance Times reported the appointment of John Spence as aviation underwriter at Syndicate 609 last month.
