Steve Treloar to join insurer in November

Aviva has appointed Steve Treloar, formerly director of the motor category division of rival insurer Royal Bank of Scotland Insurance, as the new retail director for its UK general insurance business. The appointment takes effect from November.

In the newly-created role, designed to support Aviva’s growth plan for its direct business, Treloar will be responsible for the direct arms of Aviva and RAC. The direct business represents just under 25% of gross written premium for Aviva’s UK general insurance business.

Treloar will be part of Aviva’s UK general insurance executive team, reporting to UK general insurance chief executive David McMillan.

“Steve brings with him a huge amount of industry experience which will enable him to make a great contribution both to the future direction of the business, and to the execution of strategic plans,” McMillan said in a statement.

“Steve’s immediate focus will be on supporting our marketing initiatives such as ‘Get the Aviva Deal’, driving RAC individual membership, further enhancing our RAC Insurance panel proposition and shaping the strategic direction of our retail business.”

In his former role at RBSI, Treloar was responsible for motor businesses through phone, web, aggregator and broker channels. His remit stretched across all RBSI brands as well as partner brands.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
