Basil Brush has had his famous tail insured for £1m while he is on a promotional roadshow.

Stoke Insurance Brokers have devised the BasilSafe policy and are receiving an annual premium of £1000 from the puppet fox's owners, Entertainment Rights.

A spokeswoman for the firm said: "It's just to make sure he is protected against all accidents while he is on the road. No price is too high for our Basil Brush."

She said there was only one Basil Brush puppet and that it was an asset that needed to be protected.

The puppet's occupation is listed as "Fox`tastic' Gentleman" on the policy.

His new television series is due to start on the BBC this autumn. His roadshow, to promote his new single and album, will take place during October.
