Reinsurance broker Benfield is generating business from Bermuda-based reinsurance companies choosing to deal directly with brokers rather than insurance companies, it said yesterday.

The Bermudan businesses were set up to deal with the increase in premiums after the September 11 attacks, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Chief executive Grahame Chilton said: "The new companies are choosing to deal with brokers, which is very encouraging for us.

"Trading conditions remain favourable and we believe Benfield is well positioned."

Earlier this week Benfield announced an increase of 8.3% for its half year operating profits.
