Mike Bennett, assistant hull underwriter for Royal & Sunalliance, is quitting after a 20-year stint to join QBE at the end of February.

He will be taking on a more senior role at his new company.

He previously worked with David Davies, senior underwriter of the marine division, and hull underwriter Richard Turner.

Steve Gargave, active underwriter for QBE's marine syndicate and responsible for marine and energy underwriting syndicate 79, said: “Mike was with Royal & Sunalliance for more than 20 years, and so will bring in-depth knowledge for the hull insurance sector.

“The hull market has not made too much money over the past few years and has still got a long way to go with respect to writing levels. With Mike aboard, we have really positioned ourselves for the future.”
