Norwich Union is backing a new website providing health, safety and insurance information to small business start-ups.

Safestartup.org has been developed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) in partnership with Norwich Union Risk Services and is supported by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Small Business Service.

The interactive website helps users to easily identify the basic actions required to comply with legal requirements for health and safety at work as they start their business.

IOSH head of technical affairs Richard Jones said: "We hope this will address the current situation in which, on average, the rate of fatal and major injuries in small firms is almost double that for firms employing more than 1,000 people."

Norwich Union's training and consultancy manager Teresa Budworth said: "This sponsorship underlines our commitment to risk management solutions within the commercial marketplace."

The website was launched last week at the start of the European Week of Safety at Work.
