Barnardo's will hold its first fundraising Insurance Day on 22 June, with the aim of “ensuring children have a better future”.

The charity will ask insurance companies to help raise money by participating in an insurance quiz, making a company donation or by asking employees to dress for a day in the green that symbolises Barnardo's.

Barnardo's spokesman Patrick Ladbury said the money raised would help the three million children growing up in poverty in the UK.

Barnardo's works with 1,000 young people who have been in care every year.

“Young people leaving care are 50 times more likely to go to prison and 88 times more likely to be involved in drug abuse,” Ladbury said.
