Insurers must start placing more trust in their regional offices, according to Manchester's biggest independent broker Alec Finch.

Speaking live on Insurance Times' Biba TV, Finch said that the large insurers are taking away authority from their regional offices. "We can't get the decisions we want from the local offices so we have to travel far and wide," he said.

"It's a logistical nightmare having to travel up to London to present more and more risks," he added.

"I don't know what to do. We'll have to investigate ways of tackling it because it just can't go on," he said.

Finch also said that insurers are taking advantage of the hard market by informing brokers of rate rises just two days before having to implement them.

"It doesn't leave much time to explain this to the clients," he said.

Finch said the Biba conference was one of the best speaker programmes seen in recent years. But, he added: "I'm disappointed that more of the big brokers aren't here and that there isn't more presence from the local market."
