Independent Insurance chief executive Michael Bright has surrendered his passport to the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), Insurance Times understands.
The SFO refused to comment on the information from a senior industry figure, as it is in the midst of an investigation into the collapse of the failed insurer.
However, Bright has retained leading fraud lawyers Burton Copeland in preparation for questioning by the SFO.
Bright, who has a home in Spain, is believed to be at his Kent residence.
