Brit Insurance has poached a leading liability underwriting team specialising in employee and public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
The team is led by John Murphy, currently the active underwriter of Lloyd's Syndicate 2525,who has over 30 years' experience in the UK insurance market.
Brit said Murphy had sought to novate the management of Syndicate 2525 from Abacus Syndicates Limited (ASL)
to Brit Syndicates Limited (BSL) but ASL were not prepared to recommend such a novation, although John Murphy and his team have been fully released from their contracts.
Murphy will start at Brit on 14 October 2002.
Brit predicts that £100m of premium income will be written for 2003 in this class. This forms an integral part of Brit's plans to underwrite approximately £1bn of gross premium income for 2003.
Chief Executive of Brit Syndicates Limited and Brit Insurance Limited Dane Douetil said: "We are delighted that John Murphy and his experienced team have decided to
join Brit which will be able to provide the capital, support and infrastructure to double the account to £100m of gross premium income in 2003.
"John's expertise is an important piece of the jigsaw that Brit requires to realise its plan to grow its UK small to medium enterprise commercial property and casualty account, where we see a gap in the market. This is the fourth major team to join Brit in the last seven months."
