Three-quarters of the UK's motorists believe their insurer will provide a car after an accident. But, the AA warned today that only 10% of motorists enjoy this benefit.

The AA survey found that most motorists are unaware of the shortcomings of their motor insurance.

While most motorists felt they would receive a courtesy car, the survey warned that a car is provided only if a garage is carrying out repairs.

Meanwhile, the survey also found there was apathy among motorists. Only a third believe their claim would be settled within two weeks.

The AA's Andrew Briscoe said: "We've learnt just how much motorists are unaware of the shortcomings of their motor insurance."
