Brixton underground station will be closed for the next three weeks while asbestos is removed from the station.
The asbestos was found during work to install another escalator and lifts, although London Underground said it was not dangerous in its current state.
It said it had been carrying out regular air tests and that there had never been any risk to passengers or staff.
