Reg Brown (left), the active underwriter of RE Brown Syndicate (702), is handing over the pen after 17 years to deputy Andreas Loucaides in January 2001.

Brown, president of the Chartered Insurance Institute, will take a pivotal role in the syndicate's new parent company Markel Syndicate Management.

The former parent Terra Nova Bermuda was acquired by the Markel Corporation in March, which will be managing four syndicates in 2001, including 702.

Loucaides has been the deputy underwriter since 1986 and joined the syndicate in 1981. "It is a great honour to be taking over from Reg," said Loucaides. "Lloyd's is undergoing change, and ongoing developments at 702 are also reflecting the changing way the syndicate's business is conducted."
