Law firm Bryan Cave has formed an international risk management team of 50 lawyers in nine offices around the world to advise on risk retention and risk transfer techniques.

It said the move was prompted by the belief that many companies were not sufficiently protected by their insurance and other risk management vehicles.

Bryan Cave partner Steven Blair will coordinate members of the team based in London, comprised of specialist insurance and reinsurance lawyers.

"We live and operate in a more complex environment than the last century and there are greater threats and risks in every aspect of business, from product safety to corporate governance to employee conduct," said Blair.

"Clients are having a hard time understanding whether their financial and corporate approach to risk management makes sense and is cost effective."
