The FTSE 100 Index surged more than 3% ahead yesterday after investors were boosted by an FSA decision to give insurers breathing space.
Insurance stocks rose sharply and pulled the index ahead to close up 122 points at 3689 - its biggest rise in three months.
Among the insurers on the rise was Royal & Sun Alliance, ahead 8% to 104p, with Prudential up by 23p to 403.75p.
Aviva rose 37.5p to 430.25p, while Legal & General gained 5.25p to 80.5p.
