Bupa has confirmed that it is considering the sale of its UK hospitals business, Bupa hospitals.

The board said that it was reviewing the situation in response to "significant changes in the UK healthcare economy and in particular the increasing role the private sector is playing in that market", and confirmed that it had entered preliminary discussions with interested parties.

According to reports, the group could make over £1bn from the sale if successful.

The board added however that this possible sale did not apply to any other Bupa businesses.
