BUPA has launched a new private medical insurance scheme, which allows people to specify types of cover.

BUPA's new Heart & Cancer policy is the first condition-led private medical insurance scheme in the UK and offers policyholders cover for heart conditions and cancer. The launch of Heartbeat follows new research, which shows eight out of ten people worry about these diseases the most.

Steve Flanagan, BUPA sales director said: "We developed the new Heartbeat options after listening to what our intermediaries and customers told us they wanted. Much of our business is sold through intermediaries, and one of the main aims of these new options is to make pmi more affordable for more people."

Heartbeat cover is available from the first appointment until the last day of hospital treatment. Intermediaries can begin selling the new BUPA Heartbeat options from 4 November 2002.
